100 Gigabit QSFP28 Optics

QSFP28 is a hot-pluggable transceiver module designed for transmission rates of 100G (SFP types interface). QSFP28 integrates 4 transmit and 4 receiver channels. “28” means each lane carries up to 28G data rate. QSFP28 can do 4x25G breakout connection, 2x50G breakout, or 1x100G depending on the transceiver used.

What to know: QSFP28 optical transceivers are similar to QSFP+ in form factor and size. Also, 25Gb/s is available in per channel of QSFP28 optics. Furthermore, the ports of QSFP28 types can be backward compatible with QSFP+ optical transceiver units. A 100G QSFP28 port can generally take either a QSFP+ or QSFP28 optics.
